International oversized, overweight and excess baggage
The following information regarding oversized, overweight and excess baggage applies only to international travel on United. All fees shown below are in U.S. dollars and are for one-way travel only, unless otherwise specified. For travel within the U.S., Canada and U.S. territories, visit the U.S./Canada oversized, overweight and excess baggage page.

Some checked items are assessed a special handling charge because of size, fragility or other handling requirements. Please view the information on the International special items page to see examples of these items. Acceptance, restrictions, and charges will vary depending upon destination and aircraft.

Exceptionally bulky or fragile items will not be accepted as checked baggage. These items may ride in a passenger seat in the cabin provided that a ticket has been purchased for the item and specific seating conditions have been met.

  • Any checked bag with a single dimension more than 62 inches (158 cm) will not be accepted.
  • Any checked bag that is more than 115 linear inches (292 linear cm) will not be accepted.

Excess baggage consists of all additional checked bags beyond the baggage allowance, which is either two or three bags, depending on your Global Services, Mileage Plus, Star Alliance or military status.
